In case you haven’t heard by now, Ronnie Fieg’s East Coast Project Capsule collection will start selling later today. With adjacent stores, one representing Miami and the other New York. We were very fortunate to be invited to the pre-opening gathering.

The event brought everyone from Rob Garcia of EN Noir, Joe La Puma, Matt Chevallard of Del Toro, Virgil, Pusha T, Maxwell Osborn & Max Pierre of Public School New York, Chris Stamp of Stampd LA, 13th Witness who photographed their look book as well as Mellany Sanchez, Santlov, Tatanka and many more. Lots of people came to show love.

When you talk about Ronnie Fieg there is not much left unsaid, other than what he is yet to do. Not only are his capsules the only true limited pieces in the game but his re-sale value keeps increasing.

Now, he comes to Miami were he will show the world how a capsule collection should be done… People pay close attention…

Details:

The Kith East Coast Project takes the collaboration concept far beyond expectations with all the extended family involved. Accompanying the Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte III ‘New York City’ and ‘Miami Beach’ editions, this capsule collection goes to include custom- created headwear, outerwear, shirts, luggage and eyewear that each carry iconic team colors.
Partners like Play Cloths, Just Don, Golden Bear, Stance, Stampd, Herschel Supply Co. and Tina Catherine have all worked closely with Kith to create this carefully curated range of ‘New York City’ and ‘Miami Beach’ themed pieces. Made to complement one another as well as operate individually, each item captures the spirit of the two cities on the same coast with very different paces, but with a shared taste.
Limited quantities will launch at the Kith Miami pop-up store on May 2nd, following with the Manhattan and Brooklyn Kith locations on May 10th. As far as Ronnie Fieg is concerned, it’s just the beginning: “This was supposed to be an intro to the store I want to open in Miami.”
The collection will debut in Miami with special guests to complement the very special products that are going on sale. The Miami pop-up store itself will be divided into two parts, the two adjacent store fronts will have the Miami side open from 11am to 3pm and the next door New York side of the location open from 4pm to 8pm. Each location is outfitted with staple items and installations that make each city what it is. Consider the bar officially raised as May begins. #ECP

ASICS
Both the ASICS Gel Lyte III East Coast Project Kith colorways — the ‘New York City’ and ‘Miami Beach’ — bring two iconic colorways and uncompromising material executions to this cult classic silhouette. With a new memory foam comfort footbed and a pair of Just Stance sneaker socks, plus two sets of custom-commissioned round laces alongside the flat laces, these are some of the strongest Ronnie Fieg x ASICS designs to date. The full set ($145), sneakers and collaborative socks, come together for this one of kind package with each purchase of the shoes.

KITH NYC
The Kith East Coast Project collection considers full coverage from city to city in a handful of unique designs that are linked by their quality as well as their colors. The Madison Windbreaker ($110) debuts for ECP, made from a lightweight nylon, with some eye-catching color blocking, asymmetrical sleeve cuffs and a drawstring hood that gives it a throwback style that’s still on point. The Stanton Sweatshort ($75) is a popular Kith creation that’s made in New York with a slim fit, cuffed detailing, lightweight french terry construction and cotton stripes that’s part of the pack in two colors. The Jefferson Tank ($42) is made from 100% cotton with stripe detailing and a flattering fit for hot weather wear in any location, accompanied by two t-shirts ($45) that are embellished with the freshly created Kith New York and Kith Miami logos and finished with printed neck labels for extra comfort. Don C’s Just Don line has reinvented the hat accessory with their luxurious takes on staple snapback caps ($400 – $450). New York and Miami are represented for the East Coast Project in a handful of ultra-limited exclusives, with the wool and denim crowns complemented by real python skin peaks and premium lambskin leather underbills, with gold plated buckles on matching python straps. Specially created East Coast Project pins are added onto each custom creation to make these a true must-have product.
KITH x TINA CATHERINE
The Kith x Tina Catherine East Coast Project takes on the timeless Chelsea ($250) frame sunglasses. The frames are hand built in Japan in the same factory that creates the world’s finest eyewear. The matte grey frame’s acetate base,
stainless steel 5-barrel hinges and etched Kith branding on the interior arms deliver superior attention-to-detail. The blue to orange or teal to orange gradient options on the polarized lenses add a unique addition to an essential accessory to take on the glare of a New York summer or Miami living.

KITH X STAMPD “JUST DOPE”

RONNIE FIEG x HERSCHEL SUPPLY CO.
Herschel Supply Co. have gained a reputation for quality and value with their expanding range of bag designs. Created with Ronnie Fieg, the East Coast Project backpacks ($95) have supercharged with a 3M trim on the straps for extra visibility and main body, connecting these bags to the reflectivity on the shoes in the capsule collection, plus a chambray lining and leather zip pull. Each bag uses a heavy weight cotton canvas body for true durability and a rubber diamond sewn in on the front. Both colorways offer enough space to accommodate everyday necessities with ease.
KITH x PLAY CLOTHES “JUST PLAY”

Dr Martens x Ronnie Fieg Capsule collection part one will hit Kith stores November 2nd, 2012. The collection has to be one of his best works to date. Featuring Revington brogue in nubuck with camo suede mixed in with navy camo. Wow! Also, Bowery boot in an all over camo suede both with air cushioned insoles and slip resistant soles.

I have to say, brogue style shoes have become one of my favorites. To anyone out there concerned with how to style these, they go with everything. They can be dressed up or down so just go for it. It will ad a nice change to your shoe line up.

Ronnie Fieg has teamed up with Italian-made brand Del Toro to present two Alto Chukkas and two Basso Wingtip sneakers. The Alto Chukkas come in “Cow Camo” and “Tiger” colorways with full soft pony hair uppers. The shoes feature leather lining, red heel tabs and Ronnie Fieg branding on the insole, both of which sit comfortably on Margom soles. The Ronnie Fieg x Del Toro Basso Wingtip sneakers come in “Blue Leopard” Italian suede and “Leopard” pony hair with brogue detailing throughout. Both also include Ronnie Fieg insole branding and Margom soles. The “Leopard” colorway includes a navy leather panel and a full red leather heel. Ronnie Fieg has been providing us with some of the most limited must have footwear of our time. His collaborations with Converse, Asics and Sebago to just mention a few have become instant classics. During his SEBAGO capsule release tour he stopped in Miami were we caught up with him.

RF has been trusted to work with some of the oldest footwear companies in the industry. He has successfully worked with classic silhouettes and made them better. Enjoy our conversation. Word!

WIT: Whats up Ronnie?

RF: Everything is good man!

WIT: Great to meet you!

RF: Great to meet you too!

WIT: You have been on a work war-path since the Nexus project: How does it feel?

RF: It feels great, you know? Certain people have drive. Ever since I got started, I just want to keep going… I don’t know how to rest. It’s been a nice ride. I’m appreciative of everyone who has been showing love. I’m just taking leaps… One at a time…

 WIT: You have kept this project (which is huge) under wraps. I mean you just finished a Converse project, which is crazy! How did you manage to keep everything under wraps?

RF: It’s hard to keep things secret these days with photos and everyone wanting to get a piece of the information early, but basically I have to give all the credit to SEBAGO for keeping the information so tight.

 Usually, if you’re a big publication you can tap into any brand and get information because they always want publicity. But they knew to keep everything under wraps. That’s a very important part of the strategy on how to release goods.

 I really feel that if you release information or photos too early, people feel that they’ve had the shoe and they’re stale before they even come out….

 So like you said, it was important to keep things tight. I’m just thankful that the company has been able to work with me in terms of keeping the information locked down…

WIT: What do you have to say for those people out there that think success comes without hard work?

RF: People have a misconception on how hard people have to work to reach a certain level. I’ve worked really, really hard in all aspects. Not strictly in the type of business that I’m in now, which is curating products, being able to design shoes and trying to come out with my own goods. I’ve worked hard from the bottom up.

 Everything starts with knowledge and attempting to acquire more knowledge, you have to work your way up. To me this is the most important thing when trying to do your own thing or trying to get into a business…

 There is a whole panoramic view of the business. You have to see all aspects. I think people want to reach A to Z without going through the alphabet and that usually doesn’t work. To be successful you have to put your time in.  

 You know, I just have to be thankful for all the opportunities I was given growing up being able to work at David Z. With David taking me in and really teaching me everything…

 I really had to start from the bottom and that’s really how it should be done. Everyone has their own opinion on what to make and what to change; yet many haven’t had the experience on working with consumers like I have. I’ve been working as a general buyer for years. I’ve seen what it is that people like and what they purchase.

 It has been a very important element in terms of what I am going to make for the market. These shoes are made for the people. I don’t make shoes for myself, so it’s very important to learn about the market before you try to get into something and that’s what I was able to do throughout my career…

WIT: How open have you been to change? How important is it to be open to change? 

RF: How open am I to change? I’m very open to it. Being comfortable in a certain situation is what keeps you stagnate, but looking for change and accepting it, that’s what keeps things moving.

 Nobody likes change in terms of career, but it is important to be open to it. You get very comfortable in a certain situation or position and you do anything to avoid getting out of your comfort zone, but it’s the people who embrace this change in their life that really flourish in their careers.

 In terms of comfort, I’m always uncomfortable. I’m never comfortable with what I’m doing so it’s always on to the next one. Lets celebrate tonight for the launch of this piece or the fact that my site did very well over the weekend. This launch was successful so yeah, I’ll celebrate tonight but tomorrow it’s a new day and on to the next challenge!

Saturday Shoe Gallery played host to Ronnie Fieg for the launch of his SEBAGO Spring 2011 capsule collection. The SEBAGO display was crazy! A full nautical theme… All in all the event was dope!

It was good to see: Ronnie Fieg, Clyde and Chino from Inside The Sneaker Box, Safe from Migente Clothing, Joey, Joe La Puma from Complex Mag, Ali from Sneaker Me Stupid, Plus Givens, Rugah Rahj, and everyone else who came to  support… Werd!
