Saturday afternoons at GRAMPS are worth stopping by. Last Saturday I stumbled across Zine Happening. The event featured 10 zines including Tom Tuna (he was also djing), Sun & Sons, Slightly Erotic (Love that name), Mondo Bizzaro, Miami Zine Machine, Jessy Nite, Gabriel Alcala, Danny Kokomo, Dale Zine and Brian Butler. The vibe was chill. Next time you hear about a Zine event anywhere in Miami go take a look. It’ll be worth your while.
There’s something to be said for having a different way of thinking. A way of doing your own thing. Now days it seems like everyone wears a costume of who they want to be like based on popular opinion but there’s still few who just do what they like, create what they like to see around them. A Zine is a perfect throwback to showcase whatever it is the individual publisher wants.
This isn’t new since Zines have been around since the 1920, but through out the years they have died and revived. Now, we have fanzine’s or Zine for just about anything.
Thanks Gramps for doing cool shit often.
