Two weeks ago I had to stop by the court house to pay a traffic ticket. As I walked out I heard helicopters hovering over this one area. I looked up and I notice they had news channel logos. I didn’t think anything of it. A few minutes later, I’m editing at my house with the balcony door opened, I noticed the helicopters were still in the same area. Something told me to do a quick a google search to see if there was anything going on near by.
The first link was a live video feed from the scene of the accident less than a mile away from my building. There were no deaths reported so I headed over and as you can see it looked like Two Worlds collided. It was something straight out of a movie set.
A rescue truck and a fire truck crashed head on. No one was severally injured but I couldn’t believe how damaged the trucks were. Plus, in the distance I noticed a small sports car destroyed.
You know I had my camera with me… So, I cautiously started taking photos. I was trying not to disturb anyone. There was Lieutenants, Captains and the Assistant Chief of the Fire Department plus Police officers at the scene. I was right up to the yellow tape… Wow! It was like being at the sidelines of a sports event. Everyone near the health district came out at some point to see what was going on…
I took photos as respectfully as possible, I didn’t want to be asked to leave…How often would I get to record such scene? Not that I’m looking to that as a permanent position but it was interesting. I would have liked to be as close as the Miami PD photographer but it wasn’t bad and I didn’t get kicked out….
