Introduce yourselfs. Where are you from? Favorite food? And anything else that comes to mind.
Norma. 23. Renaissance woman. Tomboy. Chinese food lover. Thrifty Shopper. and all around mindless wanderer.
I am Aja, my last name is stupid long. I am from Maryland originally but moved to Miami in 07. My favorite food is….I’d say nachos.
How did you come up with the name?
We were inspired by the ridiculousness of the infamous “2GIRLS1CUP” clip and figured it was time for us to finally start recording the incredibly random things we kept getting ourselves into. Of course “2GIRLS1BLOG” was taken so we did a bit of brainstorming around the idea of 2 girls and a blog and ended up with 2DOPEBITCHES. The rest is history.
Have you always been into design?
Norma: I’ve always been into culture and actual branding of companies as well as trends. I always loved to have the male version of the latest urban trends. I love unique and eccentric things’ from building structures to technology and accessories.
Aja: I’ve been into design since I could hold a crayon to paper. Literally I would draw closets of clothing with outfits on hangers and matching shoes underneath when all the other Daisy Scouts were doodling dumb little kid stuff.
When did you start making your own accessories?
Norma: I recently started discovering and getting more riskier with my style. When I find that I cant have something, just try to find the alternative to it and poof – there’s something I made that anyone could’ve done.
Aja: I started making actually wearable accessories in school around 2008.
What does fashion mean to you?
Norma: Fashion is just about the way you chose to express yourself. The woman at the bus stop with 2 kids and a cart is expressing herself. Thats her fashion sense which fits her lifestyle. I’m a young adult with attitude and charisma, so how I dress represents how I feel and how confident I am. Fashion can get overrated easily and to me its just about creating your image that you want to reflect to the world; in whatever way that may be.
Aja: to me the word “Fashion” means an empty palette and unlimited art supplies. There is so much fashion out there- Couture, Ready-to-wear, “fast fashion” like Forever21, etc. Then comes “style” where you do what feels right to you specifically, setting everyone apart or grouping them together.
What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
Norma: I love networking. I love creating a bigger circle, and especially meeting people who inspire me. Seeing that people around me at events or though the Internet or even with e-mails to the site are up and active makes me love blogging and being part of this community.
Aja: OK, my favorite thing about blogging is that I can say whatever the F I want to because it’s our soapbox. We pride ourselves on writing about music we actually listen to, artists we truly like and respect and not just putting out everything that we think would get us “hits” or whatever.
What’s the most randomness’ thing you’ve been told about your gold’s?
Norma: The most random but also typical thing I get asked is, “You must bite a lot huh?” – I’m like, “UHH, No?” , Awkwardly. Especially when its a 50-year-old father asking me. Creepo!
Aja: Funniest thing ever said to me about my golds? Well at the Odd Future pop up shop in the Design District Tyler, The Creator pretended to kick my camera out of my hands and yelled “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING??” and when I laughed he laughed and said he was just kidding and that my teeth are cool. So I guess that counts right? I’m lame…
What’s in the future for 2DOPEBITCHES?
Norma: Anything and everything. We want to DJ, we are planning events, we are opening up a vintage clothing shop, we are designing, we are creating! We are trying to bring everything “dope” and unique to the masses, or at least trying to start with Miami. Miami stop being so prude lets get up and get things started!
Aja: there is SO MUCH in the future for 2dopebitches- so much I can barely say actually. I mean I could tell you but then I’d really have to kill you and I can’t afford another strike. Just kidding. Not Really.
What would you change about our culture?
Norma: What I would change about our culture is the overwhelming influence Hip-Hop music has on its audience including our youth. Disrespect, materialistic tendency’s, and a skewed image of responsibility and priorities is toxifing our urban culture. We are letting society put urban culture in a box, in a category, and to be stereotyped easily. Also urban culture is beginning to think certain behaviors, thoughts, and actions are what are typical people are suppose to do just off of what they hear in a Hip-Hop song. I’m tired of it having a bad influence on those around me. Lets please think rationally people.
Aja: what would I change about this lovely culture of ours? I always sound like such an old lady but most of the music on the radio is so demeaning and negative. I mean, the beats are usually fun and whatever people dance and sing along but do people like, care about the lyrics? Am I going crazy? Do we not hear these horrible things?? LIke, I don’t want my nieces singing along to negative stuff about girls…
Now, what’s up with this clothing line?
Its just basically our take on vintage and re-loved items styled in our unique fashion with our vision for our customers in mind. We want them to expand their style to include a little bit of everything with their own personalities shining though.
Where did it come from?
I’ve always wanted to do something like this. Partnering up with Aja we make a great team and both appreciate thirfting all the same. So it came from our minds to fruition.
Was this on the works?
This has been an idea of ours for over a year but finally with our new look we decided it was the right time to make it a reality and JUST DO IT!
Is it all-original? Are you just curating it?
We are curating it and picking pieces but also making alternations and customizing the pieces we get. We plan on expanding and making our own line in the future. Time will reveal all.
