Holy Other at The FILMORE September 22nd, 2012

Holy Other will tour North America as support for Amon Tobin ISAM Live this Fall. This will be the first time Holy Other has ever played in the US. **Working with the same blend of R&B, UK garage and house sounds that influenced the funereal pop sounds of With U, Holy Other found another significant influence during the making of Held in listening to and absorbing gregorian chant. This new found influence is most keenly felt in the monastic atmosphere that haunts sections of the album, as well as the ways in which holy other uses the voice in a way that sounds devotional and comforting in one instant, and unknowable and distant in another.

While it was never explicitly stated at the time of release, Holy Other opting to remain vague about the meaning behind the record, With U essentially chronicled the painful break down of a relationship. In comparison Held is about being confined to a relationship and the depth of emotions felt throughout its course. Where With U was fuelled by a desperate urge to ‘feel something’, Held is possessed by a more resigned feeling, concluding with the acceptance that some bonds ultimately yield nothing.**

STYLE SAVES: MIAMI SWIM WEEKS’ “BEST SHOW FOR A CAUSE”
Philanthropic Young Professionals Host Charity EventTo Benefit Underprivileged Students

Miami Beach, FL – On Thursday, July 19th, 2012, Style Saves kicked off Miami Swim Week with a splash! To celebrate Style Saves’ 1 Year Anniversary, co-chairs Rachael Russell and Ashley Spitz produced Style Saves’ summer fashion show fundraiser. The dual effort fittingly coalesced Russell’s creativity and fashion styling talents with Spitz’s background in non-profit fundraising and event planning.

Over 400 of Miami’s most recognized, influential and fashionable faces gathered at the ultra-chic Soho Beach House to support Style Saves’ mission to “build confidence through clothes and give a fresh start through fashion” to local underprivileged students in South Florida. The event raised nearly $40,000 for Style Saves, doubling last year’s efforts.

The exclusive Style Saves fashion show was held in conjunction with Miami Swim Week and was unique due to its charitable component, given the organization’s affiliation with The Miami Foundation. Coupling philanthropy with fashion, Haute Living magazine aptly named the event Mercedes-Benz Swim Week’s “Best Show for a Cause.”

“We were thrilled to host the ‘Best Show for a Cause,’ and lend our support to Style Saves,” says Soho Beach House General Manager Laurent Fraticelli. “We think the work that they do is so important to the heart of Miami, and the approach that they take by tapping into the fashion world fits very well with our deep support of Miami’s creative communities.”

The show featured runway looks by Trina Turk and Papi swimwear, and showcased fashions from Atrium and iShine365. Each look was personally styled by celebrity fashion stylist and Style Saves’ founder, Rachael Russell who ambitiously put forth a display of almost 80 different looks.

“Collaboration is key,” says Rachael Russell who recognizes that a show like this can have a profound and positive impact on smaller brands. In turn, Russell encouraged the runway debut of Tortoise & Blonde eyewear, That Madonna Girl floral halos and C. Madeleine’s vintage jewelry whose accessories completed each look. Gorgeous fishtail braids and glowing faces beautified the models by stylists from Rik Rak Salon.

DJ Brett Sylvia set the mood with the perfect mix of tunes, while partygoers sipped on cocktails sponsored by Grey Goose, Moët Chandon, Peroni and Vita Coco, and indulged in cupcakes by Stella’s Sweet Shoppe. The event was highly digitized, featuring a plasma screen at the end of the runway for designer branding and a projected live Twitter feed updated by LGD Communications.

Keeping with interactive technology, guests were able to view the online auction hosted by Charitybuzz on iPads thcoughout the space and capture memories in the Capture Pod photo booth sponsored by Atrium. The auction will be live on Charitybuzz.com/StyleSaves until August 2nd and features a Soho Beach House weekend stay, Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour $1,000 shopping spree, Balenciaga clutch and much more!

Notable guests included film director Michael Bay, celebrity chef Travis London, Gilt Groupe founder Alexandra Wilkis Wilson and “Real Housewives of Miami” cast members Joanna Krupa, Marysol Patton and Alexia Echevarria. To cap off the night, Mynt Lounge hosted an after-party to celebrate the event’s success.

Amongst a handful of local organizations, Style Saves has partnered with Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation to benefit the children of the Michael Fux Family Center at Miami Children’s Hospital.

“Our hope is to make the children who don’t feel good, look good,” says Ashley Spitz who has a professional tie to the Foundation. “In a sense, we will be giving a healthy dose of confidence to the kids and helping their families at the same time,” she adds.

Last year, Style Saves partnered with Big Brothers, Big Sisters for the back-to-school event, which featured a field day of activities that included arts and crafts, games and of course styling. With plans to do so again, Style Saves is focused on targeting other deserving groups as well to target students most in need.

“Going forward, we really want to pull all of our fashion industry resources together and reach a greater number of organizations,” explains Russell whose plans include partnering with Tracy Mourning’s Honey Shine Mentoring Program.

“It’s all about the little details when making a difference,” she adds. Russell has each student fill out surveys to assess their personal style.

Russell is spearheading the Style Saves back-to-school event scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 26th. The event will incorporate more than just clothing aspect by offering haircuts by Privé Salon, plus make-up lessons for the teenage girls, since as stylist Russell is eager to create an entire look from head-to-toe.

With the help of the Style Saves Board, Russell explains, “We are motivated to do whatever we can to make our students feel their best, with the true hope that they will have the confidence to then do well.”

H&M to Open New Location at Aventura Mall in Fall 2012

On Saturday, June 30, Cosmopolitan en español, the leading Spanish-language fashion and beauty magazine for the fun, fearless Hispanic female, celebrated its 40th anniversary with its Fab @ 40 Smirnoff Beach Bash, presented along with sponsors Smirnoff Ice and Splat.

More than 200 guests attended the summer “after-beach” party, which featured an exciting variety of summer-inspired entertainment. After enjoying Smirnoff Ice refreshments at the door, friends and fans were invited to experiment with flirty new looks at the Splat station, featuring color hair extensions and washables, and Blo Midtown’s pop-up braid bar. L*SPACE models gave guests a look at the season’s latest luxury swimwear as they roamed the party. The crowd participated in birthday festivities, which included a custom-designed birthday tower by Mighty Fine Cakes and Sweet & Tipsy’s “Cosmo Cuptails.” Before leaving, guests captured the moment at a Polaroid photo booth.

The first 250 guests received an exclusive VIP gift bag that included a Cosmopolitan en español beach towel and water bottle, Promovizion sunglasses, WineStraws, Eye Majic instant eye shadows, and Splat hair extensions and complete color kits, among other treats.

The Miami qualifier for Red Bull King of the Rock, a one-on-one basketball tournament where the finals are held on the island of Alcatraz. In 2010, Red Bull King of the Rock went down in history as the first official sporting event ever to be held on Alcatraz and the first time basketball had been played on The Rock since the inmates left the island over 50 years ago. Now in its third year, the global one-on-one basketball tournament will return with the most competitive field to date. Bigger and better than ever, Red Bull King of the Rock has expanded to qualifiers in 27 countries, including 33 in the United States. From these qualifiers, 64 finalists will head to the island to put it all on the line in The Yard on Alcatraz on September 22.

There are only two options: win and continue on, or lose and go home. Games will last five minutes and be subject to regulation hoops rules and scoring (two and three pointers). Only the first 64 players to register will be accepted into the competition, so players should arrive early if they want to compete. The qualifier is open to amateur and pros alike, however players must be 16 years of age or older to participate. Participants under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian present to sign a waiver at the qualifier.

Red Bull will be teaming up with Li-Ning, Skull Candy, 24 Hour Fitness and Dime Magazine for this historic event.

Rules: Sixty-four of Miami’s most talented one-on-one basketball players fighting tooth and nail to earn a “golden ticket” to compete in the Finals on Alcatraz. Only the top player from Miami will advance. For info on competing click HERE

Musician, fashion trendsetter, and all around NYC cool kid, Theophilus London announced a special collaboration with Del Toro Shoes over the weekend. The Brooklyn musician has taken Del Toro’s fashionable slipper and has done what he does best- added his personal style to make it his own. “I have been watching Del Toro for a bit now. I’ve always liked how a slipper can come off effortless and extremely stylish at the same time. In my travels back and forth to Miami I finally met the co-founder and Creative Director behind Del Toro Matthew Chevellard. He immediately got my vision and we knew we could make something really sexy together.” Theophilus began designing his slipper to match the lifestyle of his LVRS brand and flip the way slippers have traditionally been worn. The most notable feature of the Italian made slipper is the custom designed rose crest. The rose has been a theme and inspiration in Theophilus’ music and travels since the start of 2012. In January he commenced the “Tour de Roses” tour in the US and has since taken the show overseas to tour in Europe (he embarks on his 2nd European Run on July 6th). Other notable details on the slipper are the star emblems on the side of the shoe and the LVRS initials on the back.

Theophilus London X Del Toro is the artists second shoe collaboration. His first foray into shoe design was with COLE HAAN last year where he added a jazzy calypso blue color way to the brands legendary suede buck and made it his own. In addition to the new “Theophilus London X Del Toro” collaboration the artist has another special release on deck. The musician released “Rose Island Vol. 1”, his 4th mixtape project 12:01AM on Tuesday, July 3rd . This is his first mixtape project since the release of “I want You” in 2010. Theophilus has returned to his roots with the goal of getting back to the basics for the recording of “Rose Island Vol. 1.” In typical TL fashion, there’s something for everyone on “Rose Island Vol. 1” which is filled with hip hop bangers, electronic club tracks, sing along anthems and, of course, a couple slow jams for the ladies. Rose Island is an imaginary place in TL’s head where he goes when he needs to escape reality and time. Theophilus London is signed the Warner Bros Music and has also released “Timez Are Weird These Days” and “Times Are Weird These nights” with the label. KASKADE “Freaks Of Nature” Tour Coming to Bayfront Park July 14th

The New York Times recently called Kaskade the “new face of electronic dance music,” his own live show being a jaw-dropping spectacle that finds him performing in front of an 80-foot wide, three-story tall LED screen that blares images synched with the music, while strobe lights scan the crowd. For this post Karla and I ventured to the Gables to see where we could shoot. We found this nice fountain area and decided to go for it. Karla felt inspired by the reflection in the water while I was thinking how am I going to pull this Jump off on the little ledge of the fountain in my fab outfit and heels. We where both up for the challenge.

I really love fringe and the combination of the peachy/orange tulip sleeve top with the white; it looks great on my recent tan. I paired my outfit with a studded clutch and a multi knot chain so I can wear this outfit for a late afternoon to evening outing.

So back to this jump, Karla and I joked on how this one is very Jack Ass inspired especially if I fall. I added a picture of the ledge so you can see I did not have room for error. My first try I flashed half of Coral Gables due to my top flying up and covering my face, lol. After a few tries I managed to get it and not fall. Kudos to me…

I have been doing post in shorts due to the extremely HOT & HUMID weather in Miami at the moment. I will soon switch it up. Till the next post. Have a FRINGETASTIC Weekend, Ciao.
