The District Factory, a Glimpse Behind the Assembly Line

Where Emerging Designers and Artists Pop Shop

During Art & Design Night in the Miami Design District

As a nod to Andy Warhol’s famed studio “The Factory”, The District Factory, an evening shopping event & mash-up hosted by special guest Annie Vazquez, The Fashion Poet, is set to launch Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 7-10PM, at 3900 NE 1st Avenue, in the Miami Design District, during Art & Design Night, and will shine a spotlight on the emerging designers and artists who are single-handedly manufacturing the hottest trends.

Showcasing what’s in stock, items available for sale include art, jewelry, apparel, reconstructed vintage and more. To add, The District Factory also features monthly rotating art installations, specialty cocktails and light bites, a complimentary quick fix from Nail Bar Beauty and Lounge, sounds by the pros at Scratch DJ Academy, an indie “Factory Flick” courtesy of O Cinema, and so much more. Providing a visually creative and custom designed backdrop for The Factory is Steve Harivel, Founder of Club Harivel. Using vintage factory finds and remnants, also available for purchase, Harivel describes the look as “atelier”, French for creative workshop.

Founded on the belief that you can make a living doing what you love, The District Factory encourages the entrepreneurial spirit of emerging artists and designers by facilitating exchanges with the community that result in awareness, support, and ultimately commerce. Taking it “offline”, The District Factory offers a “glimpse behind the assembly line” and creates synergies between creatives and the community looking to meet the talent behind today’s emerging trends.

Partners of this eagerly anticipated launch also include Miami Design District, MIAMI Magazine, SX Liquors, Delaplaine Water, Pop Chips, and Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables who will showcase a beautiful selection of vehicles available to Factory fans. Receiving a portion of the evening’s proceeds is Dress for Success Miami, who provides training and clothing to individuals struggling to secure and retain employment. “The District Factory’s focus on making a living out of doing what you love is one that Dress for Success Miami shares. For over 17 years, we have been committed to helping Miami residents’ dreams of employment come true. We are honored to be the beneficiary and look forward to a successful launch event this April,” said Sonia Jacobson, Founder and Executive Director, Dress for Success Miami.

Currently The District Factory is a monthly evening shopping event and mash-up during Design District’s Art & Design Night. Future plans include operating seven days a week to provide designers and artists with a communal workspace and showroom, creative inspiration sessions, industry panel discussions and workshops.
